



Duties: Assist the director in departmental leadership coordinating significant and innovative program initiatives designed to 1) improve instructional practices and the quality of student learning; 2) redesign and modularize basic math courses; and 3) implement tailored intervention strategies aimed at moving students through the basic math sequence more efficiently and effectively. Teach at least one section per semester of basic math. In collaboration with the director, assist with the recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of part-time faculty and other program personnel. Oversee and manage math tutoring labs and hiring, training and evaluation of basic math peer tutors and faculty tutors. Serve as ALEKS administrator developing operational procedures related to planning, implementation and evaluation of ALEKS related activities. Develop and implement professional development and training programs. Develop and implement summer bridge programs for intensive math review and preparation to enable students to transition successfully into college level math courses, or at the very least, begin their college career at the upper tier of developmental programs. Faculty supervision: determine class schedules, serve as faculty mentor, monitor department policies, maintain divisional data, and mediate faculty/student issues. Curriculum development and support: monitor, evaluate, and upgrade curriculum, including textbooks, course computer component, diagnostic tests, final exams, supplementary course materials, proper student placement, and new course offerings. Department and University involvement: serve on various committees, network with other departments on campus, participate in/plan/facilitate various workshops and initiatives, help increase retention of students in a variety of ways, and participate in various university and professional events.
Qualifications: A Master's Degree in mathematics or a closely related subject, at least two years of experience teaching mathematics at the college level, supervising faculty, performing administrative and management duties, coordinating academic support programs and tutoring students required. Demonstrated professional experience in curriculum development and instructional design, excellent written and oral communication skills required. Technology acumen and experience with the use of database software required. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in mathematics or related subject with at least 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics from a mathematics or statistics department. Extensive background teaching mathematics and/or additional background in adult education. Thorough knowledge of academic support services relating to developmental education, outcomes assessment and program evaluation; designing learning environments; and assessment and placement. Experience in academic administration and supervision in a community college setting.
