Duties: The College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at The University of Akron seeks an effective administrative leader to serve as Associate Dean for Research and Director of the Institute of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering. The successful candidate is expected to assist in growing the College's research activities, and will be responsible for: faculty development with respect to grant proposal writing and funding source identification; industrial and government outreach efforts; marketing the College’s research capabilities; and the allocation of financial and facilities resources to enhance the research enterprise. The successful incumbent will also assist the Dean in executing research-related college policies; shape the policies and supervise the operations of the Institute of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering; and lead faculty members in exploring opportunities for obtaining collaborative and highly competitive research center funding. The position brings unique opportunities for developing research initiatives and for demonstrating forward-looking leadership.

Qualifications: The successful candidate is required to hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field; have strong record of competitive US federal research funding; and a minimum of two years of administrative experience as either a department chair at a major research institution, a director of a major federal research center at a University, or as a program/division technical director or comparable position in government/industry. The College seeks an individual with an exemplary record of scholarly and professional accomplishment and grant funding sufficient for hiring at the rank of Professor with tenure. The preference is for a person with an international reputation for research and scholarship in the areas of soft-matter materials science and engineering.
