Akron, Ohio, March 19, 2004 The University of Akron's Board of Trustees has named Stanley B. Silverman dean of the Community and Technical College, including the Division of Workforce Development and Continuing Education.
Silverman, a Bath resident, has been with the University since 1981. He is a professor of social science and has served in several positions for the University. Prior to being named dean, Silverman was acting chair of the College of Education's Department of Counseling and the Department of Sport Science and Wellness Education.
A noted expert in the field of industrial and organizational psychology, Silverman has acted as a consultant to companies such as Allstate Insurance, AT&T, Coca-Cola, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., B.F. Goodrich, General Motors Corp., General Tire and Rubber Co., Shell Chemical, Walt Disney Co. and Weyerhaeuser Co.
The author of Working Scared: Achieving Success in Trying Times and more than 30 professional articles, he has been interviewed on The Today Show, National Public Radio and the Business Radio Network.
Silverman earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Ohio State University, a master of arts degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Middle Tennessee State University, and he did doctoral work in industrial and organizational psychology at The University of Akron.
He is a member of the American Psychological Association, Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, American Psychological Society, Psi Chi National Honor Society, and the Academy of Management's Management Education and Training and Personnel/Human Resources Division.
In addition to his professional activities, Silverman is a board member for the Revere School District and the Jerry Shaw Jewish Community Center of Akron.

The University of Akron's Community and Technical College provides a broad range of occupationally oriented programs. Bachelor's degrees are offered in automated manufacturing engineering technology, construction technology, electronic engineering technology, emergency management, mechanical engineering technology, and surveying and mapping. Twenty-five associate degree programs are offered in allied health technology, business technology, engineering and science technology, and public service technology.
