Learning Outcomes
Students will demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency in all of the essential communicative language skills (reading, writing speaking and listening comprehension).
Students will demonstrate the ability to exercise critical thinking skills in the foreign language studied.
Students will demonstrate a selective understanding of major geographic, climate, economic and agricultural features of the world regions represented by the language studied.
Students will demonstrate a selective understanding of political features and historical development of the world regions represented by the language studied.

Degree Distribution Requirements
This curriculum guide is a recommended plan of study. Students with questions about degree requirements should contact an academic advisor.
It is expected that students either take Beginning Spanish I and II in the summer before their first year or purchase as By-Pass Credit.
The OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) is required during the final semester before graduation.
3580:408 Survey of Literature Spanish American can be substituted for 3580:407 Survey of Literature Spanish.
3580:432 Hispanic Culture: Spanish American can be substituted for 3580:431 Hispanic Culture: Spain.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 128 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
Three Year Accelerated Option
For first time students who have earned credits for at least the first year of courses. Credits can be earned through qualifying scores on appropriate Advanced Placement (AP) exams or through Postsecondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP) courses. Credits for qualifying AP scores or PSEOP courses are determined by the appropriate academic department. Departments may assign varied course credit, depending on the student’s score on an AP exam or PSEOP course. Students may also receive credit by examination or via placement tests, where appropriate.
