Learning Outcomes
Students will demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency in all of the essential communicative language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension).
Students will demonstrate the ability to exercise critical thinking skills in the foreign language of studied.
Students will demonstrate a selective understanding of major geographic, climatic, economic, agricultural, political features and historical development of the world regions represented.
Students will demonstrate a basic familiarity with contemporary society.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the grammatical structures of the target language.
Students will demonstrate a familiarity with selected major artistic & literary accomplishments of cultures represented by the language studied.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the applications of foreign language study to varying career paths.

Degree Distribution Requirements

It is expected that students either take Beginning French I and II in the summer before their first year or purchase as By-Pass Credit.
The OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) is required during the final semester before graduation.
3520:305 Introduction to French Lit may be substituted with any other French literature course.
3520:303 French Culture & Civilization may be substituted with any other French culture course.
3520:304 French Culture & Civilization may be substituted with any other French culture course.
3520:306 Introduction to French Lit may be substituted with any other French literature course.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 128 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
