Degree Distribution Requirements
This curriculum guide is a recommended plan of study. Students with questions about degree requirements should contact an academic advisor.
It is expected that students either take Beginning French I and II in the summer before their first year or purchase as By-Pass Credit.
12 credits in other disciplines. Students will be able to expand on the French/Francophone unit of the class in other discipline by conducting extensive research or writing a paper. The French/Francophone component of a class in another discipline must be discussed with and approved by the course instructor and the student's adviser in the French Section. Please see Bulletin for a complete list of Discipline Courses.
The OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) is required during the final semester before graduation.
3520:303 French Culture & Civilization may be substituted with any other French culture course.
3520:305 Introduction to French Lit may be substituted with any other French literature course.
Students must take 18 credits in French: 3 in Language, 3 in Culture, 3 in Literature and 9 Electives.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 128 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
Three Year Accelerated Option
For first time students who have earned credits for at least the first year of courses. Credits can be earned through qualifying scores on appropriate Advanced Placement (AP) exams or through Postsecondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP) courses. Credits for qualifying AP scores or PSEOP courses are determined by the appropriate academic department. Departments may assign varied course credit, depending on the student’s score on an AP exam or PSEOP course. Students may also receive credit by examination or via placement tests, where appropriate.
