Degree Distribution Requirements
This curriculum guide is a recommended plan of study. Students with questions about degree requirements should contact an academic advisor.
Class Piano I, Class Piano II and Intro to Theory are not counted toward the degree program total. These classes are required or excused per entrance placement.
3400:221 Humanities in the World Since 1300 may be substituted for 3400:210 Humanities in Western Tradition I.
See your adviser, certain classes are only offered in even or odd years.
3400:221 Humanities in the World Since 1300 may be substituted for 3400:210 Humanities in the Western Tradition.
7500:353 Electronic Music may be substituted for 7500:471 Counterpoint.
A student meeting the following criteria is eligible for direct admission to his/her music degree program in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences; high-school core classes completed; 3.0 high-school GPA; minimum combined ACT score of 20, or combined SAT score of 800; placement in Theory I and audition at 100 level of applied instrument; award of music scholarship.
Three hours of Music History credits apply to the General Education requirements.
Completion of the 400 level Applied Music course is required for graduation.
Students are required to take two credits of 7500:497 Indp Study: Music during Fall of Year 4.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 129 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
