Degree Distribution Requirements
This curriculum guide is a recommended plan of study. Students with questions about degree requirements should contact an academic advisor.
3400:221 Humanities in the World Since 1300 may be substituted for 3400:210 Humanities in the Western Tradition.
7520 Applied Music classes must be your Primary Instrument.
Credits earned for Class Piano I are not counted toward the degree program total; this class is required or excused per entrance placement.
See your adviser, certain classes are only offered in even or odd years.
Three hours of Music History credits may apply to General Education requirements.
Jury to the 300 level of Primary instrument is required for graduation. 7500:497 Independent Study: Music must be taken for 2 credits in Year 4 Spring. The minimum credits allowed to register is 1 credit.
A student meeting the following criteria is eligible for direct admission to his/her music degree program in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences: high-school core classes completed; 3.0 high-school GPA; minimum combined ACT score of 20, or combined SAT score of 800; placement in Theory I and audition at 100 level of applied instrument; award of music scholarship.
It is recommended that students consider taking General Education courses during some summer sessions to reduce credit load during the regular academic year.
7520:1xx courses exclude 7520:16x courses.
Saxophone majors must jury to the 200 level of applied flute and clarinet prior to graduation.
Guitar majors must jury to the 200 level of applied classical guitar prior to graduation.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 132 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
