Degree Distribution Requirements
This curriculum guide is a recommended plan of study. Students with questions about degree requirements should contact an academic advisor.
3400:221 Humanities in the World Since 1300 may be substituted for 3400:210 Humanities in the Western Tradition.
Class Piano I, Class Piano II and Intro to Theory are not counted toward the degree program total. These classes are required or excused per entrance placement.
A student meeting the following criteria is eligible for direct admission to his/her music degree program in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences: high-school core classes completed; 3.0 high-school GPA; minimum combined ACT score of 20, or combined SAT score of 800; placement in Theory I and audition at 100 level applied instrument; award of music scholarship.
It is recommended that students consider taking General Education courses during some summer sessions to reduce credit load during the regular academic year.
A student meeting the following criteria is eligible for direct admission to his/her music degree program in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences: high-school core classes completed; 3.0 high-school GPA; minimum combined ACT score of 20, or combined SAT score of 800; placement in Theory I and audition at 100 level of applied instrument; award of music scholarship.
Completion of the 400 level Applied Music is required prior to graduation.
Three hours of Music History credits can be applied to the General Education Humanities requirement.
7520:124, 224, 324 and 424 must be taken for the maximum credit hours of 4 credits per semester to meet degree requirements.
7500:366 Song Literature I may be substituted for 7500:367 Song Literature II.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 141 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
