Degree Distribution Requirements
This curriculum guide is a recommended plan of study. Students with questions about degree requirements should contact an academic advisor.
7700:101, 102, 210, 202 and 222 American Sign Language I-IV and Survey of Deaf Culture may be substituted for Modern Languages: Any (35xx) courses listed in guide.
7800:355 Stage Lighting Design may be substituted for 7800:306 Stage Costume Design.
3400:221 Humanities in the World Since 1300 may be substituted for 3400:210 Humanities in the Western Tradition.
7810 Performance Lab may be substituted for or taken with 7810 Production Lab.
All Theatre majors will be required to earn at least eight credits of 7810 Lab work. At least 4 credits must be in Production Lab. A maximum of sixteen 7810 credits may count toward completion of any of the B.A. degrees. In order to earn 7810 Performance Lab credit, a theatre major must attend all University Mainstage auditions. A student should consult with an adviser in the Theatre Program to obtain permission to enroll.
The following are preferred courses in Physical Education for General track Theatre majors: Fitness or Dance.
Introduction to Theatre Through Film (7800:301) WILL NOT fulfill the Humanities requirements for students majoring in Theatre Arts.
Students majoring in Theatre Education P-12 must complete both 7800:472 and 7800:473.
For the Theatre BA (TAG) degree, a student may choose Acting II (7800:373 OR Methods of Teaching Elementary Theatre 7800:472 OR Methods of Teaching Secondary Theatre Arts 7800:473).
Some suggested disciplines from which electives may be chosen include Music, Art, Dance, English, History and Communication.
History of Theatre and Drama Literature (7800:335) and History of Theatre and Dramatic Literature II (7800:435) are only offered every other year. Juniors and seniors must take these courses when offered.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 128 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
