Degree Distribution Requirements
This curriculum guide is a recommended plan of study. Students with questions about degree requirements should contact an academic advisor.
The School of Communication recommends 3470:250 Statistics for Everyday Life or 3470:260 Basic Statistics to meet the General Education mathematics requirement. Courses satisfying the School of Communication math requirement include 3450:145 (College Algebra), 3450:135 (Math For Liberal Arts), 3450:141 (Algebra with Business Applications), 3450:210 (Calculus with Business Applications), 3470:260 (Basic Statistics),3470:261 & 262 (Introduction to Statistics I & II) or their equivalents.
Please note that 2030:130 Math for Allied Health, 2030:151 Technical Math I, 2030:152 Technical Math II, 2030:153 Technical Math III, 2030:154 Technical Math IV, 2030:2420:170 Applied Math for Business, 2030:255 Technical Calculus I, or 2030:161 Math for Modern Technology DO NOT fulfill the School of Communication mathematics requirement.
3300:113 and 114 African American Language I and II may be substituted for 3300:111 and 112 English Comp I and II.
7700:101,102,201,202, and 222 American Sign Language I-IV and Survey of Deaf Culture in America may be substituted for Modern Language (35xx) courses listed in guide.
The School of Communication recommends 7600:325 Intercultural Communication to meet part of the Area Studies and Cultural Diversity General Education requirement. 7600:105, Introduction to Public Speaking; and, 7600:106, Effective Oral Communication are the required classes to meet the General Education Oral Communications requirement.
3400:221 Humanities in the World Since 1300 may be substituted for 3400:210 Humanities in the Western Tradition.
A grade of C or better is required to graduate in the following courses (or their substitutions): 3300:111 and 12, 7600:105 or 106, 7600:115, 7600:384.
Organizational Communication Requirement: Complete 12 credits from: 7600:245, 252, 325, 345, 437, 454, 459. Complete: 7600: 226, 235, 344, 435, 436.
Organization Communication elective credits: 12 credits from 7600: Communication.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 128 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
