The course 7100:250 Foundation Review is a faculty review of completed coursework prior to a student's in-depth study in specialization areas. It is a requirement for all BFA degrees. The Foundation Program is a sequence of classes that investigate the fundamentals of visual art and design. These interdependent classes are structured around a common questioning of formal and conceptual issues, providing students with a base of knowledge in visual art and theory on which students can develop their work.
The courses in the Foundation Program are required for all BFA art majors and should be completed during the first two years of a student's course of study. These courses present knowledge fundamental in preparation for a career in visual art or design. Students are expected to have an understanding of the verbal use and visual application of vocabulary terms that are related the concepts of art, design, and art history. The foundation classes are prerequisite to all intermediate and advanced coursework.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 128 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
