7400:481 Spec Pro: Sp-Lang Path/Aud is taken four times. Students must take the following topics in this order: Year 3 Fall - The Resilient Child & Lab (4 cr); Year 3 Spring - Assessment, Play and Therapeutic Int. (3 cr); Year 3 Summer - Professional Practice in Child Life (1 cr); Year 4 Fall - Professional Practice & Communication in Child Life (3 cr)
During the Spring Semester of Year 4, students must take 7400:495 Internship: Guided Experience in Child Life Program for eight credits. It must be taken alone and it requires 12-16 weeks at 40 hours on location.
3400:221 Humanities in the World Since 1300 may be substituted for 3400:210 Humanities in the Western Tradition.
3470:260 Basic Statistics may be substituted for 3470:250 Statistics for Everyday Life.
3230:251 Human Diversity may be substituted for 2040:256 Diversity in American Society.
For acceptance into Child LIfe Program, student must: have a 3.0 GPA; complete at least 4 semesters or 2 years time-equivalent college coursework; complete Child LIfe application; submit at least 3 professional letters of recommendation (from an employer, someone who observed your work with children, an instructor); pass required interview; earn at least a B in Direct Experience; complete 50 hours of experience with children.
Without limiting the generality of its powers to alter, amend, or revoke rules and regulation, The University of Akron reserves the right to make changes in degree requirements of the student enrolled prior to the change by: Altering the number of credits or courses required in a major field of study, deleting courses, amending courses by increasing or decreasing the credits of specific courses or offering substitute courses.
The following credit hour requirements apply to this degree: 131.5 minimum total credits; 32 credits in residence; the final 32 credits must be taken from The University of Akron.
