Distance Learning at UA

Distance-learning classroomThe University of Akron's distance-learning network includes 29 distance learning classrooms located on or off of the Akron campus.  With distance learning, students in select courses attend lectures taught by a faculty member who is either local or at a remote location. Audio and video of the lectures and discussions are transmitted over high-speed data lines, allowing students and instructors to communicate with each other in real time.

Since 1999, The University of Akron has invested millions of dollars to create one of the most advanced and sophisticated distance-learning networks in the state of Ohio.

To date, UA has connected to hundreds of locations around the world for classes, meetings and conferences. These locations include:

  • Mexico City
  • London
  • Tokyo
  • Moscow
  • Berlin
  • Rio de Janeiro
  • Madrid
  • Buenos Aires

Our facilities are equipped with the latest multimedia and videoconferencing equipment available.

With this technology, instructors and students can expand the classroom to limits that only their imaginations can define. This makes the outstanding educational resources at The University of Akron available to anyone...anytime...anywhere.
