The foundations of the finance field are changing and the Department of Finance faculty are committed to keeping the MBA program as current as possible. With two of the world's top finance researchers in the Department, it is well poised to do just that.
The concentration provides you with the skills you need to compete in a global economy where the timely interpretation of ever-changing information is critical to success. Graduates of the program go on to successful careers in business organizations, financial services and banking.
You need to have a completed application to be considered for admission. That means that you have to have a GMAT score (at least 500), a TOEFL score if you are an international student, hold an undergraduate degree, have your statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, resume, transcripts (at least a 2.75 GPA) and all the other material in to us so that our graduate admissions committee can evaluate your application.
The Corbin Finance Laboratory continues the CBA’s tradition of offering world-class education in world-class facilities. The Finance Lab was designed by students and faculty to provide a forum where the complexities of financial markets can be viewed from multiple perspectives simultaneously. It takes the concept of a trading room one step further by giving students up to six different live feeds at the same time and the ability to integrate those data into modeling software.
Our world class facilities are backed by a world class faculty. Two faculty members in the department, Drs. Aigbe Akhigbe and Raj Aggarwal were both included in a list of the top 1% of finance professors globally based on a study of all (about 18,000) finance professors and their scholarly productivity over the last half century. In Ohio, the only finance department to have more than two such scholars on their faculty was The Ohio State University with three.
"My decision to major in Finance at The University of Akron was one of the best career moves I could have made." Lawrence J. Rybka, JD, CFP, President, Valmark Securities Inc., Beachwood, Ohio.
