The integrated bioscience doctoral program at the University of Akron is unique among Ohio’s public and private doctoral degree granting institutions. No other program in the state offers a Ph.D. specifically aimed at training all students with an integrated approach to bioscience. This program combines modern biology, bioengineering, bioinformatics, and biochemistry with the central unifying theme of connection across levels of biological organization and scientific discipline.
Applications to the doctoral program in Integrated Bioscience are accepted on a rolling basis; however, review begins in mid-January for Fall enrollment.
Applicants who wish to be considered for a graduate assistantship should apply by January 10 for Fall enrollment.
The mission of the Integrated Bioscience program is to address the need for Ph.D. level graduates who have both deep and specific expertise in a bioscience, bioengineering or biotechnology discipline and broad adaptability across related disciplines. These graduates will take their integrative thinking, adaptability, and communication skills into the U.S. job market, where they will spur economic growth.
All assistantships (and any fellowships) are awarded through the academic department. Students interested in obtaining an assistantship must apply. New students may indicate on their online application for admission that they would like to be considered for an assistantship. Current students must contact the academic department for application information. Each department may have different requirements for assistantship applicants, so all students should contact the academic department to determine these particular requirements. Only those students fully admitted to a master’s or doctoral degree-seeking program are eligible for a graduate assistantship. Students admitted as non-degree seeking or to a certificate program may not hold an assistantship.
