Motion and Control Specialization Certificate

All manufacturing processes involve motion and control which may range from simple use of pneumatic cylinders in robotics to coordinated motion and sequence control in assembly lines. The technology in motion and control grows and changes at a pace that makes systems of over five years old almost obsolete. The primary purpose of the Motion and Control Specialization certificate program is to provide the graduating engineers with a focused expertise in motion and control and to furnish the necessary tools in order to enable them to follow the changes in technology after graduation. In addition, the program will also serve the practicing engineers and life-long learners to come back to school and refresh their skills using the certificate program.

Admission Requirements

• To participate in the program, the student should be formally admitted to The University of Akron as a graduate student.
• Persons interested in this certificate program should contact the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Application Deadline

Applications to the Motion and Control Specialization Certificate program are accepted on a rolling basis.

Assistantship/Scholarship Information

All assistantships (and any fellowships) are awarded through the academic department. Students interested in obtaining an assistantship must apply. New students may indicate on their online application for admission that they would like to be considered for an assistantship. Current students must contact the academic department for application information. Each department may have different requirements for assistantship applicants, so all students should contact the academic department to determine these particular requirements. Only those students fully admitted to a master’s or doctoral degree-seeking program are eligible for a graduate assistantship. Students admitted as non-degree seeking or to a certificate program may not hold an assistantship.

Paying for college is a vital part of the education process. It is important to be informed of the many sources of aid available. Student loans are available to degree-seeking graduate students.
