Five things smart students do to set the stage for a successful job search:

  1. Start early! Successful students visit the Career Center in their freshman year to learn about the Zipway — a four-year career development plan. Building your resume over four years is easier than waiting until you graduate to figure out what you should have done.

  2. Plan a co-op/internship for your junior year. This will help you develop early on valuable work-related skills.

  3. Do the paperwork. Have your resume, cover letters and references ready to go. Always be truthful and honest.

  4. Register with the Career Center and use the center's jobs database with current openings with local, regional and national companies.

  5. Use all the resources available to you. The center offers career advising regarding your job search, as well as tools and resources to assist you in your search.
