Office of Accessibility
Adaptive TechnologyAdaptive Technology has been defined as the category of products made to provide alternative access for users with disabilities. Technology in our Adaptive Technology (AT) lab provides users who have vision impairments, physical impairments, learning disabilities and other impairments access to information in ways that are more congruous to their needs. The Office of Accessibility has the following forms of adaptive technology software available in our office lab:
- JAWS: Screen reader.
- Dragon Naturally Speaking 8: Voice recognition program that "types" what you speak.
- ZoomText Xtra Level 2: Magnification and screen reading software.
- Read-n-Write: Word Processing Program that helps with written language.
- Inspiration: Graphical outliner/organizer that combines objected-oriented drawing with electronic outlining.
- Kurzweil 3000: Document reader and study aid.
We also have two high-speed scanners for turning text into text files for screen reading. Kurzweil 3000 and JAWS are also available in other locations. Make sure to take a set of headphones with you when you use these computers. Kurzweil can be found on computers in:
