Office of Accessibility
Note Taking Note takers are students who are enrolled in the same class as the student with this accommodation. Students requesting note takers must present the note taker memo and accommodation letter to the instructor. The student asks the instructor to read the memo explaining the open note taker position. When a potential note taker from the class contacts the Office of Accessibility, she/he will be hired as the note taker if the employment criteria are met.Student Responsibility:
- We recommend you request your note taker accommodation no later than one week prior to the beginning of the semester.
- Give note taker memo to instructor with your accommodation letter within the first two weeks of the semester
- Contact the Office of Accessibility if your note taker memo is not read by the third class.
- Your instructor will then read the memo to the class which will help recruit a note taker. If your instructor doesn't read the memo by the second class, remind your instructor to read the memo to the class.
- Someone from class usually comes to our office to be hired.
- If you have identified a classmate as your note taker, please refer them to the Office of Accessibility
- Notify the Office of Accessibility IMMEDIATELY if you don't have a note taker by the end of the second week of classes.
- Request a tape recorder to tape lectures until a note taker is in place.
- Talk with your note taker about how the notes are working for you. (Make suggestions as to what will help you or compliment her/him on a job well done.)
Contact the Office of Accessibility when:
- You make changes to your class schedule
- You have not received notification that a note taker has been hired
- Any concerns arise regarding your notes
