Internships for Students with Disabilities

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities is currently seeking college students for a paid college internship position to work and gain valuable experience in the Information Technology field.  Please post/circulate this communication with the attached position description.

Duties:

Under direction of Senior Analyst:  analyzes designs, develops & implements department computer systems or modifications to existing department computer systems in a Microsoft-centric server based environment.

Uses multiple development tools & techniques including Visual Studio 2008 or higher; VB.NET, classic ASP using Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), LINQtoSQL or other access methods to connect with Microsoft SQL Server databases; uses reporting tools such as COGNOS or Microsoft reporting services to develop OLAP & OLTP reports.

Analyzes user needs & existing functions to determine feasibility, requirements & hardware & software alternatives for computerization; prepares estimates of computer & human resource factors; recommends appropriate hardware & software to higher level authorities; develops system flowcharts & detailed program specifications; designs database requirements, structures & procedures including system test procedures to determine validity & reliability; writes complete system documentation.

Requirements:

Candidate must be currently and continuously enrolled in an accredited college/university.

Pay Scale:

The pay scale is determined by the student’s academic status.  The maximum hourly rate for an undergraduate student is $14.72; graduate student $17.91.

Work Hours:

The work hours are flexible to accommodate the student.

Works under general direction & performs various activities:  Works with department staff as assigned to gather requirements; designs screens, writes new code; maintains existing code using VB .NET with the Visual Studio Team Suite platform. 

Works with development staff to gather requirements, develops new reports & maintains existing reports using COGNOS or Microsoft Reporting Services report authoring tools.

Analyzes & documents existing forms, gathers & documents requirements, designs & programs forms changes using Adobe LiveCycle & Acrobat Professional.  Converts existing paper forms to on-line fillable forms using Adobe LiveCycle.  Creates workflow wizards using ASP.
