Access to Curriculum and High Quality Instruction for Educators Valuing English Learners
Project ACHIEVE is a five-year National Professional Development grant awarded to the Department of Curricular & Instructional Studies in the College of Education and the Department of English in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences from the U.S. Department of Education. The focus of the grant is on increasing the proficiency of teachers who work with English learners (ELs), particularly those teachers specializing in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and special education. The grant objectives align with the following goals:
- Increase the number of in-service teachers who complete the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Endorsement;
- Increase the effectiveness of STEM, special education, and general education teachers who work with ELs;
- Increase the academic performance of ELs in participating districts; and
- Improve system support for the professional development of teachers who serve ELs.
