The University of Akron is a metropolitan campus with the opportunities and excitement that such a setting brings. But we at UA have worked hard to cultivate a true collegiate environment — safe, self-contained and easily navigated. There's plenty of green space for studying under the trees or hanging out with friends — and we're in the process of adding 30 more open acres.
In 2000, we launched the New Landscape for Learning program to renew our 130-year-old campus. Your students will be among the first to use our new Student Recreation Center and its recreation pool, ball courts, fitness facilities and rock-climbing wall. Soon, we'll complete the new Student Union which contains a movie theatre, bowling lanes, student organization offices and food court. We've already completed two state-of-the-art classroom buildings, updated labs and renovated classrooms across campus.
Most classes — as well as the Student Union and main library — are located in the central part of campus so students rarely, if ever, have more than a five-minute walk to get to them. If a student does have a class in one of the buildings farther out, a shuttle bus is available to transport them.
UA has been accredited since 1914 by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is ranked at the highest level as a comprehensive, doctoral-degree granting institution. UA's more than 20,000 undergraduate students may choose from more than 200 majors and areas of study - from nursing to fine arts. Check out
