Admission Criteria

Admissions Criteria

All applicants must have graduated from high school or received a GED. Applicants under the age of 21 also must submit ACT or SAT test scores and transcripts from any post-secondary coursework.

Students who demonstrate college-ready academic preparation and performance will be admitted directly to the college/academic program of their choice. Admission criteria varies by program/academic department, but is reserved for students who qualify academically (typically B grade average or better, competitive ACT/SAT scores, and college prep coursework in high school.)

Students who do not meet the direct admission criteria will be considered for University admission and assigned to an appropriate pre-major for the freshman year of study. Students will be advised by an academic adviser in UA’s Center for Academic Advising and Student Success (Akron Campus) for the freshman year and permitted to continue into their academic program of choice upon the completion of their freshman year, if they meet the minimum GPA requirements at that time.

Students whose academic profile does not meet the minimum criteria for University admission will be reviewed on an individual basis, by the Admissions Committee, to determine college readiness and possible admission to UA’s Summit College Student Success Program (Akron Campus) for their freshman year. Admission will be limited to students whose academic profile and credentials demonstrate promise of academic success at the college level. Letters of recommendation and additional information are encouraged for admission consideration for these students.
