THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON FOUNDATION
Advancing the mission
The University of Akron Foundation is the primary fundraising and gift-receiving arm of The University of Akron.
Incorporated in 1966 as a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, the Foundation advances the University’s academic, cultural, and service mission by encouraging and securing private support for the benefit of students, faculty, programs, and capital projects.
YOUR FOUNDATION AT WORK
“I am so grateful for generous University of Akron donors. Their scholarship assistance is making it possible for me to concentrate on being the best student I can be. I am even more motivated because of the generosity of others.”
With a 50-member Board of Directors and seven committees – all comprised of business and community leaders – the Foundation operates exclusively for the benefit of the University, investing and managing gifts, administering funds in accordance with donor wishes, and recognizing philanthropy.
Strengthening the University
During FY2014, the Foundation had assets of $130 million and provided nearly $8.5 million in support to the University. Since its inception, the Foundation has imparted tens of millions of dollars in student financial aid, lectureships, professorships, chairs, instructional grants, equipment funds, and landscape improvements, as well as funds to support new opportunities for students and faculty to grow and excel.
Alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations have a longstanding and deep interest in supporting the Foundation, which is committed to strengthening UA’s position as a great public university on the move – helping it remain distinctive in the state and responsive to the changing landscape of higher education.
