Participating in Division I athletics can be very challenging and rewarding. If you're like most athletes, you want to open a window to the big league - professional sports. However, the average length of a professional sports career is less than 10 years; so even if you do make it to the professional level, most of your working life will extend beyond any sports career.
A college degree is your ticket to success on and off the playing field. While athletics build strength, leadership, responsibility, friendship and character, a college education builds the skills to be professional in a career.
Keep in mind that the pressures of winning in Division I competition are keener than those in high school play. As an athlete, you must juggle classroom attendance and assignments with team practice and extended road trips. Therefore, time management is crutial.
