Dr. Matthew Becker

Professor of Polymer Science

  • 2003 Ph.D. Organic Chemistry, Washington University
  • 2000 M.A. Organic Chemistry, Washington University
  • 1998 B.S. Chemistry, ACS Accredited, Northwest Missouri State University

Research Interests

The Becker research group focuses on synthesizing highly functional macromolecular materials for medical, orthopaedic and regenerative medicine applications. Dr. Becker is the co-Director the industrially focused Akron Functional Materials Center He also leads the Center for Biomaterials in Medicine of the Austen Bioinnovation Institute in Akron and is the coordinating the research efforts between the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the ABIA. Professor Becker is the co-PI for the NIH-P41 program “Integrated Technologies for Polymeric Biomaterials” (J Kohn, PI – Rutgers). Prior to joining UA, Dr. Becker lead tissue engineering and bioimaging projects at the NIST Combinatorial Methods Center and facilitated Polymers Division interactions with the research divisions of the U.S. FDA.
