In a move that continues its legacy of generous support for higher education in Wayne County, the Smucker family has announced it will increase to $1 million The Paul H. Smucker Memorial Scholarship, which benefits students at The University of Akron Wayne College.

Interim Chief Diversity Officer named

President Scott L. Scarborough, Ph.D., announced that the Reverend Dr. Carl P. Wallace, a distinguished pastor and community leader with deep experience in diversity matters, has been appointed interim Chief Diversity Officer for the University, pending Board of Trustees approval. A national search is being conducted to permanently fill the position.

UA's latest Fulbright Scholar off to elite London university

Garrett Dowd, who graduated from UA in 2015 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, received a Fulbright award to study at the prestigious University College London in England.

"It is hard to overstate how difficult it is to earn a Fulbright award to the United Kingdom," says Dr. Karl Kaltenthaler, professor of political science and the Fulbright Program Advisor on campus.

Governor appoints two to Board of Trustees

Governor John R. Kasich has named two outstanding Akron-area community leaders to the UA Board of Trustees — William (Bill) A. Scala and Joseph M. Gingo. The appointees, both alumni, will fill two vacancies among the Board’s nine voting members.

Men capture 2016 MAC Outdoor Track and Field title

A strong final-day performance – which came down to the triple jump – helped the men clinch the 2016 MAC Outdoor Track and Field championship.

The women's squad came up just short in its bid repeat as league champions, earning a runner-up finish.
