“Everyday I go to work, I actually say, ‘I’m going to school,’ because I keep learning, innovating,” says Isil Nugay, who punctuates this sentence, as she does most of her conversation, with wide smiles. Her “schoolroom” just happens to be the sprawling campus of Apple Inc., headquartered in Cupertino, Calif., where she is a senior module process engineer.

That enthusiasm for innovating is what brought Nugay to The University of Akron, where she earned a Ph.D. in Polymer Engineering in 2014.

UA has begun the hiring process for 55 full-time faculty members – 18 tenure track positions, 33 non-tenure track positions and four open category positions; the open positions could be either tenure track or non-tenure track, depending on the result of the searches. In addition, the hiring of additional faculty members will be discussed with college deans and faculty leadership as part of the implementation of the colleges’ strategic plans.
