Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to graduate using the "new" major, or can I graduate under the "old" requirements? All students who declared their major prior to the publication of the 2008-2009 Undergraduate Bulletin in August 2008 have the option of choosing the set of requirements under which they wish to graduate. All students who declared an anthropology major after August 2008 must use the new major. The Student Worksheets attached to this website are all for the new major.
What are the differences between the old and new majors? The old major had three tiers of requirements: Core courses, Concentration electives, and Program electives. The new major has two tiers: Core courses and Electives. The old major required 48 credits, the new major is only 41. Some of the Core Courses have changed (e.g., Introduction to Linguistics is no longer required). There are also fewer electives allowed from other departments in the new major.
