Roll your mouse over the image to enlarge About 24,000 students of diverse backgrounds attend The University of Akron. They pursue 300 different degree programs and fields of study. Yet they are united by a common goal – to succeed and thrive in the futures of their choice. To help them realize these dreams we employ innovative teaching techniques, technologies and experiences that, combined with proven methods and tools, provide Akron graduates with a competitive edge. |
For example, in 2006 UA entered into an agreement with the Akron Public Schools to create an Early College High School. This innovative four-year program, which will start in 2007, will enable students to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and up to 60 college credits, enough for a two-year associate degree. Our new First Year Experience (FYE) initiative already is showing significant results. The FYE Learning Communities program has increased retention of participating students by as much as 12 percent, while the Learning Assistants program has helped students in the targeted classes to earn better grades as well as more credits toward their degree objectives. |
In each of our degree-granting colleges, faculty strive to give undergraduates ample opportunities to participate in research. All UA students, regardless of major or program, have access to state-of-the-art learning technologies. And all have the opportunity to gain practical experience in their chosen professions before graduation. It’s all part of something we call the Akron Advantage. |
