A sellout crowd of 350 attendees at Windows on the River in downtown Cleveland on Wednesday night celebrated the achievements of those organizations honored as recipients of the NorTech Innovation Awards.
The evening's keynote speaker, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Niles, said the innovators recognized at the awards banquet represented a "resilience in our community that needs to be honored and celebrated." Rep. Ryan said the current economic turmoil also provided a time for Northeast Ohio "to step out and take hold of the opportunity to lead" by exploiting its knowledge base in areas such as biosciences and advanced materials.
The organizations that were recipients of the 2009 NorTech Innovation Awards are Arisdyne Systems Inc.; Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine; Greenfield Solar Corp.; NASA Glenn Research Center and Zin Technologies (in collaboration); Pathogen Systems Inc.; Powdermet Inc.; NeuroWave Systems Inc.; Quality Electrondynamics; Sensor Development Corp.; and The University of Akron and Kencak LLC (in collaboration).
The awards program was presented by NorTech and Crain's Cleveland Business.
