THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON ARMY ROTC STUDENT PROFILES

Many students that are in our ROTC program come from a diverse background. Whether our cadets were a high school athlete or just an average student, we don't have cadets with just one type of "personality" or "background". Instead, due to our cadets with different experiences and coming from all walks of life, it is definitely an easier transition to get to know and feel acquainted with the people here in the program.

Listed below are profiles of cadets that are currently from our ROTC program.

Mazzocca

Hello, my name is Vivian Mazzocca and I am a junior majoring in Nursing here at the University of Akron. I am originally from Canton, Ohio where I attended Jackson high school. Since at a very young age, I have always been interested in the medical field and have had a great love for helping others. I never thought I would join ROTC and my knowledge on the program was little to none. I actually always imagined myself playing lacrosse in college at some Division I or II school. I had spent an immense amount of time towards accomplishing this dream, but when it came time for signing on the dotted line to an athletic scholarship, I thought to myself, "could this time consuming college sport hinder my dreams of becoming a nurse?" Whether it would have or not, I decided the risk was too great to chance, and let go of a smaller dream to save a larger one. My parents then told me about the ROTC program, and the more I learned, the more I saw myself as a cadet. I saw that this was an opportunity that would not hinder my nursing dreams, but enhance them. When it came to choosing Akron, the decision did not take much time to make. I have always liked the city of Akron and with the great innovations recently made to the University, the competitive Nursing program and the close proximity to home, the choice was very easy. After I received a detailed tour of the campus from the ROTC program it was apparent to me that Akron was definitely the right choice. In my spare time, although it is very limited, I enjoy playing piano, spending time with family and friends and being outdoors. Although I do not know how extensive I want my military career to be, I know that after participating in the ROTC program the next four years, I will find the answer. I could not be happier with my decision to pick Akron and the fact that there are so many great people involved with the Akron ROTC program is icing on the cake. I know that the army can provide me with opportunities not found in the civilian world and I look forward to finding out exactly what it takes to become a leader in the medical field.
