University of Akron Zips Women's Basketball

Under first-year head coach Roxanne Allen, the Akron Zips look to rebuild into a solid Mid-American Conference contender. With a reputation as a "program builder," Coach Allen sees the 1997-98 season as the first step toward long-term success in the MAC.

The Zips return seven players from the 1996-97 campaign. Seniors Amie Marks and Michalene Timco bring leadership to a young corps. Junior Laura Braaten, sophomores Amanda Hubbard and Erica Glover and MAC All-Freshman team member Jamie Scott return, along with sophomore Abby Hoy, who has fully recovered from a knee injury that kept her on the bench last season.

Joining the upperclassmen are freshmen Cheryl Bowles (first-team All-Missouri at Kansas City Park Hill High School), Amanda Croston (special mention all-state recognition, Ohio), Jamie Krivak (first-team All-Ohio in Division III), Stephanie Mancini, Lisa Starr (scored 1,000 points at Wooster) and sophomore Jamie Zwisler (St. Vincent-St. Mary).
