Abel Bartley, history and Pan African Studies, received a $7,000 grant from the Ohio Humanities Council to sponsor the Pan African Studies Black History lecture series titled "Race and the Civil Society."

Amy Mast, Wayne College Dean’s Office, received $3,380 from the Ohio Board of Regents for a "Targeted Industries Training Grant for the Bosch Rexroth Corporation, an EnterpriseOhio Network Campus." She also received two Targeted Industries Training Grants in the amounts of $6,260 each from the OBR, one for Smith Dairy Products Company and one for Quality Casting Company.

Ashok Dutt

Ashok Dutt, geography and planning, wrote "Large City Crime Pattern Changes in India, 1971-91" for the Geographical Journal of India, Volume 44. Dutt also delivered the annual R.N. Dubey Memorial Lectures at the University of Allahabad in India Dec. 19-21 on the topic: "Global Urbanization, Trends Form and Density Gradients." On Dec 24, he delivered a lecture at the Mithila University titled "Urbanization Character-istics." Parts of both lectures were published in statewide newspapers. On Dec. 29, he gave a lecture at J.N. College, Madhubani, Bihar for its annual founder’s lecture on the topic "Elements of Cultural Geography with a Case Study of Mithila Region." Dutt also delivered a lecture at the Vishwa Bharati University in West Bengal on the topic: "Urbanization Characteristics in an international perspective."

Deborah Owens and Douglas Hausknecht, marketing, received $3,500 as a subgrant of the Ohio Department of Health for "Abstinence the Better Choice, Inc., Statistical Evaluation: Abstinence Only Education Program, the Responsible Social Values Program and Concerned About Teen Sexuality." They also received $2,000 as a subgrant of the Ohio Department of Health in liaison with the Scranton Co., for the project.

Denise Wray and Carol Flexer, speech-language pathology and audiology, presented "Hearing: The Essence of Literacy" at the International Auditory-Verbal conference on June 30. They recently received a $5,000 grant from the Geoffrey Foundation to fund assistantships for graduate students in audiology and speech-language pathology.

Jay Patankar, management, co-authored "A Two-dimen-sional Warranty Policy-Effects of Warranty Execution" for Advances in Mathematical Programming and Financial Planning, Volume 6, published in 2001. He also was among the co-authors of "Warranty Reserves for Non-stationary Sales Process," written for Naval Research Logistics, and "A Nonrenewable Minimal-Repair Warranty Policy with Time-dependent Costs," published in IEEE Transactions on Reliability, Volume 50, Number 4, in December 2001.

John Zipp, sociology, was a co-author of "Class, Gender, and the Family Unit: A Dynamic Model of Stratification" for Social Science Research, Volume 30, and "The Role of Organizational Size and Industry in Job Quality and Work-family Relationships" for the Journal of Family and Economic Issues, Volume 22. Zipp also gave an invited talk on the "Scholarship of Teaching" at the American Socio-logical Association’s Section on Undergraduate Education.

Julia Phillips, Counseling, Testing and Career Center, was recently appointed to serve on the editorial board of The Counseling Psy-chologist. She joins Ann Fischer, psychology, and Loreto Prieto, education, on the board. This is the first time that three people from the same institution have served on TCP's editorial board at the same time.

Mary Triece, Patricia Hill, Kathleen Clark, Yang Lin and Julia Spiker, com-munication, co-authored a chapter titled "Pedagogies of Empowerment: A Framework for Promoting the Success of Students of Color" in the monograph, "Promoting the Success of Students of Color in Communication," published this fall by the National Communication Association/American Association of Higher Education. They also presented a panel titled "Radical(Izing) Roots: Pedagogies of Empower-ment in the Basic Speech Course" this fall at the annual conference of the National Communication Association in Atlanta, Ga.

He also was awarded $100,000 by the National Science Foun-dation for "Exploring Polymer Dynamics in Solutions and Blends."
