The Student Recreation Center, Athletic Field House and Golf Practice Facility will open in 2003. Located at the southeast corner of Carroll and Union Streets, the facility will face the James A. Rhodes Health and Physical Education Building.
Basketball courts, a rock-climbing wall, a recreational pool, a weight room and a four-lane, elevated running track will be included in the recreation center. The field house will be built adjacent to the center and feature a 100-yard artificial turf field, a 300-meter track and seating for 1,500. The field house also will include a Varsity Strength and Conditioning Center.
The Zips Varsity Indoor Golf Practice Facility will have a putting green, bunker, a video player development simulator and a study lounge for student-athletes.
The groundbreaking is another milestone in the $200 million New Landscape for Learning campus project that involves the construction of six new buildings, renovation of 14 other structures and the addition of 30 acres of green space.
