Concert Bands

The University of Akron Concert Bands are open to all students, regardless of academic major. There are three concert ensembles that function during the fall and spring semester, including Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, and Concert Band. Placement in the concert bands is based on an audition, which is held during the first week of the fall semester. For those students wishing to join a concert band in the spring semester, or for more information regarding auditions please contact the UA Bands at 330-972-6919.

The UA School of Music has a small inventory of instruments for those students who do not currently own an oboe, bassoon, bass or contra-bass (alto) clarinets, and/or tenor and baritone saxophones. Students who play clarinet or saxophone are required to audition on soprano (clarinet) and alto (saxophone) respectively. After the audition process is complete, assignments for the color instruments will be designated by the UA Applied and Band Faculty.

Each concert band typically performs two to three programs each semester and rehearsals are held in either Room 09 or the Recital Hall of Guzzetta Hall.
