The University of Akron HORN DAY

The University of Akron is pleased to announce details for the 2017 UA School of Music HORN DAY on Wednesday, November 8.  We invite any interested middle and high school directors and their French horn students to join us for afternoon clinic sessions and an evening concert by The University of Akron Symphonic Band.  The concert will feature solo works with wind band performed by UA Horn Faculty, Dr. Margaret Tung, and repertoire featuring the UA Symphonic Band  horn section.  A highlight of the performance will be a premiere of John Cheetham's Sonata for Horn and Winds, set for winds and horn solo by the composer.

A schedule for the day is listed below and both the clinic sessions and concert are free and open to the public.  Any and all horn students are encouraged to join us for this exciting French Horn Day.

Horn Day Schedule

3:00 p.m. - Registration and check-in: Guzzetta Hall Atrium

3:30 p.m. - Basic Fundamentals Clinic: Dr. Margaret Tung, clinician - EJ Thomas Hall (PAH)

4:15 p.m. - Masterclass: Dr. Margaret Tung, clinician - EJ Thomas Hall (PAH)

NOTE: Students interested in performing during the masterclass should email Dr. Tung directly - There are only four performance times are available - first come, first serve.  All others will be scheduled for a FREE private lesson with Dr. Tung at a time and date TBA. 

5:30 p.m. - Dinner for Clinic Participants: Guzzetta Hall Atrium

6:15 p.m. - Horn Exhibits provided by Royalton Music: Guzzetta Hall Atrium

7:30 p.m. - UA Symphonic Band Concert: featuring Dr. Margaret, UA Horn Faculty.
