Why Give

Support Student SuccessStudent

In the tradition of a liberal arts education, the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences ensures students experience a learning environment that is open, rigorous and cutting edge. Faculty in the college seek to develop a well-rounded student, who can succeed in a global workforce with a combination of critical thinking skills, real-world experience and a depth of knowledge in their chosen area of study.

You can help students meet their educational goals and graduate with a UA degree by providing scholarship support.

Supporting graduate research

Dr. Russell Livigni graduated from The University of Akron with a B.S. in chemistry and a Ph.D. in polymer chemistry. An Akron native, Dr. Livigni believes that a good education and mentoring are the two most important ingredients in a successful career. He established The Dr. Russell A. Livigni Graduate Chemistry Fellowship to allow students to learn through research while pursuing their degree.

Supporting interdisciplinary endeavors

The James L. and Martha Foght Professorship in Chemistry was created with a gift from Dr. and Mrs. Foght and the GAR Foundation to support a scientist whose research focuses on the intersection of biochemistry and polymer science. This professorship is helping the Department of Chemistry and the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering further their interdisciplinary groundbreaking research.
