Bliss Institute Partners with Cleveland State University

The University of Akron’s Bliss Institute of Applied Politics and Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs will provide student internships in Columbus, beginning in 2009.

Under the agreement, the universities will offer 15-week internships for the fall and spring semesters and 10-week summer internships. Students in their junior and senior years will be placed in positions with Ohio legislators, political consultants and nonprofit organizations.

Provost Mary Jane Saunders of Cleveland State University, John Green of the Bliss Institute and Interim Dean Ned Hill, Levin College of Urban Affairs, sign the partnership agreement on behalf of their institutions.

“The agreement builds upon the nationally recognized Bliss internship program that has sent
students from The University of Akron and other area colleges to Columbus for 10 years,” says Gail Garbrandt, the Bliss Institute’s manager of
internships.

“It is exciting to work with the excellent program at the Levin College,” adds Garbrandt. Our agreement represents the kind of partnership among Ohio colleges and universities that Chancellor Eric Fingerhut of the Ohio Board of Regents has said is critical to innovation in higher education.”

“We’re pleased to partner with an organization with the credentials of the Bliss Institute,” says Rachel Singer, graduate program manager with CSU’s Levin College. “The ultimate winners in this agreement will be the students who will gain invaluable experience as they work in Columbus.
