There is a new application for IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. Only the current IRS form W-7, dated January 2007, should be used to obtain an ITIN.
NOTE: There is a new mailing address for submitting the W-7 which is listed on page 3 of the instructions. Changes made to the international visitors payment process as of April 2006:
- Individuals with tourist visas B-2(or WT) are no longer able to be paid anything unless they are already in the United States when invited to come to our University. Caution your visitor not to come on a tourist visa only. The appropriate visa should be obtained depending on the length of stay and purpose.
- There is no longer a tax treaty article for Independent services for the countries of Japan and the United Kingdom.
- Listed in the updated procedures is a list of the current Visa Waiver countries. If the visitor is coming under the Visa Waiver Program the waiver visa WB is equivalent to a B-1 visa. The same rules for a B-1 visa apply to the WB visa.
- There is a new Honorarium form in the April 2006 procedures update. This new form should be used to pay all honorarium and expenses of all non-university personnel.
