The University of Akron hosts Martin Luther King Jr. Day Activities Fair & Concert

This event enables the community to utilize the Martin Luther King Holiday as a “day on” rather than a “day off”! It also serves as an opportunity for community outreach that provides awareness of the University community to children in grades K-12 and their families. The celebration has been very well-received and attended, and the children enjoy the excitement and activities of being on a college campus. Community and student organizations provide activities and information that encourage non-violence, civic responsibility, respect for differences, and the importance of education. Activities will include the following: • Face painting • Jewelry making, Balloons and Treats • Coloring and Crafts • Biographic information on Martin Luther King Jr. • Historical information on the Civil Rights Movement • Buchtel High CLC Step Team and Rygt Step Urban Line Dancers • Martin L.
