David, an Ohio native, is a 1977 graduate of the University of Akron where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He began his accounting and professional services career in 1978 in Minneapolis with Arthur Andersen. Currently, David is the Director, Internal Audit at Big Lots, Inc. in Columbus, Ohio. He is a seasoned audit executive with over 30 years of accounting and audit experience.
Following Arthur Andersen, David joined Dayton-Hudson Corporation (now Target Corporation) and subsequently worked for a number of retailers in a variety of positions. David rejoined Arthur Andersen in Minneapolis in the mid-90s, and later returned to Ohio joining PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Risk Management Practice. After a number of years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, he joined Limited Brands.
After several years with Limited Brands, David joined GBQ Partners to lead their Risk Management Practice. He eventually joined Big Lots after a number of years with GBQ, and currently leads their Internal Audit group.
During his career David has built internal audit functions, performed internal audit department 'turnarounds,' and managed a variety of internal audit and business risk assessment reviews. He also has held controllership responsibilities. Currently, as Director, Internal Audit for Big Lots, David is responsible for all internal audit activities. In this capacity, he leads the company’s Sarbanes-Oxley compliance activities, various business risk and internal control assessment reviews, and the company’s enterprise risk assessment activities.
David is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, serves as Treasurer of the Board for Africentric Personal Development Shop, Inc. (APDS), and is a member of the University of Akron Advisory Board of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy.
