The Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) is a specialized degree in accounting. The program appeals to a wide variety of students from different backgrounds and is designed to meet the needs of these students by presenting them with different choices to focus their study. It offers accounting majors the flexibility to combine their accounting backgrounds with coursework in information systems and finance. Students who are new to the field of accounting are able to combine their diverse backgrounds with a graduate degree in accounting.
Students may pursue either a professional accountancy option or an accounting information systems option. Those with non-accounting degrees are required to complete 24 credits of business and accounting foundation courses. Students who have completed equivalent foundation courses at the undergraduate or graduate level may apply for waivers. Beyond the foundation courses, students must complete a total of 30 credits. At least 15 credits must be graduate accounting courses, of which 12 credits must be at the 600-level.
Recent MSA graduates obtained positions in public accounting, industry, information systems consulting, internal auditing and taxation. Some have also gone on to pursue doctoral study in accounting.
