Admission to the management and legal studies (JD/MSM-HR) has been suspended by the Management Department. Students interested in the JD/MSM-HR should select the MBA Management concentration.
These foundation or "Bridge-Up" courses form the platform upon which the rest of the MSM program is built and establish a common background for students in the program. Not everyone is required to take foundation courses. During a one-on-one consultation, a member of our advising staff will review your academic background and work history to determine which, if any, of these courses you need to take. We also offer waiver exams so that you have the opportunity to prove your knowledge of a particular subject, if necessary. If you can pass the waiver exam for a course, then you are released from the obligation to take that class, thus reducing your program of study.
Foundation courses may also be waived on the basis of prior academic work and/or business experience. For example, an individual who is a CPA would clearly be exempted from the foundation accounting course. If you obtained your undergraduate degree in business and completed comparable courses, with acceptable grades, less than six years prior to admission to the MBA program, you can expect to be exempted from most foundation courses. Students who recently graduated from an AACSB International accredited business school and had all grades above a "B-", can reasonably expect to have all the foundation courses waived.
We can only make these waiver determinations after a complete review of all transcripts and mark sheets from the institutions at which the student did undergraduate work. We will give all the credit we can. However, if there is a doubt in our mind with regard to work experience or academic equivalence, we will require the waiver exam to allow the students to prove themselves and to protect the quality of our program and graduates.
