Program Description

Request MTax Information

The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy program, is the only one of its kind offered in Northern Ohio. It provides substantive technical and professional knowledge, skills and abilities needed to function as a taxation specialist. Though it is primarily intended for practicing accountants and attorneys who wish to further or pursue a career in taxation, other individuals with an interest in a specialized taxation degree may find the program valuable.

Among the advantages of enrolling in the program are the following:

  • Courses are taught by CPAs and attorneys with significant expertise in the areas that they teach.
  • The courses offer in-depth knowledge that can be applied immediately.
  • The program emphasizes tax practice.
  • The program has an exceptionally strong reputation among employers, and its graduates are highly recruited.

The MTax curriculum consists of 24 credits of required taxation classes and six credits of elective classes in specialized taxation areas. Two foundation courses (Financial Accounting Principles and Survey of Federal Taxation) may be required for students who have not had similar classes in their undergraduate or graduate programs. Students must take those classes prior to starting the MTax program.

Semesters are sixteen weeks long and summer sessions will be five to ten weeks. Summer classes may meet one night each week with balance of the class supplemented with significant web-based support. Summer classes that are offered over a five week period may meet more than one evening each week.

MTax Program Governance Board

The MTax Program Governance Board is composed of experienced tax professionals and executives. All faculty who teach in the program are members of the Board. The Board serves as a forum for sharing ideas about the program and for ensuring that the curriculum is always relevant. The Board also helps with strategic planning and student recruitment.
