The Fisher Institute for Professional Selling is one of only 11 schools in the entire nation that is certified by the University Sales Center Alliance.

The Institute is one of the nation's leaders in sales-focused education. It provides ultra-realistic personal selling simulations in a state-of-the-art environment, prepares students to participate and succeed in the National Collegiate Sales Competition, and produces academic research that expands knowledge of the sales profession.

The Mission of the Fisher Institute for Professional Selling:

  • To enhance the image of the sales profession
  • To promote professional selling and sales management as rewarding lifelong careers
  • To provide high quality instruction to university students through our sales major, minor, and certificate programs
  • To provide outstanding training to sales executives
  • To conduct research that advances the field of sales

Our sales program is ranked as one of the six best sales programs in the country, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, according to "Sales and Marketing Management Magazine." Our graduates can earn up to $70,000 in their first year.

The institute's teaching activities include offering various sales classes to students at The University of Akron within our sales major, minor, and certificate programs. In addition, customized sales training courses designed for corporate customers and public seminars on sales topics are provided to business executives in Northeastern Ohio and around the world.

Research activities include faculty and student projects relating to the field of sales that help corporate clients solve sales management problems and/or lead to publication in academic journals and professional magazines. Among schools that do not offer a Ph.D in business, The University of Akron ranks 8th in the world for it's research in selling (Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, 2000) and 11th in the closely related field of industrial marketing (Industrial Marketing Management, 2001).

Service activities encompass a wide range of efforts within the field of sales education. Examples include assisting employers as they recruit our graduates, serving in leadership roles within professional associations, working with the media to promote professional selling as a career, providing consulting services to corporations, and helping our sales students further develop as professionals.
