
The Institute for Global Business (IGB) was established in 1996 as an academic unit within the College of Business Administration at the University of Akron through a grant from the State of Ohio. The mission of IGB is to educate high quality international business (IB) students with requisite skills and preparation to assume leadership roles in the global business model. We offer programs in IB at the undergraduate and graduate level. With a focus on providing to our students holistic academic experience with significant global learning opportunities, the IGB has been an integral component of CBA since its inception. Our dedicated faculty has varied international experience and expertise, is committed to student success, and pursues an active research agenda to provide enriched learning opportunity for students. The IGB offers a Major in International Business or a Minor in International Business, along with a Certificate in International Business. These programs and been updated to stay relevant in the fast paced International Business environment. Students are now required to become proficient in a new language that will further their international skills and includes many Study Abroad options to give students international experience. The International Business MBA has also been updated to give students the skills they need to find a career in International Business

The IGB works with international companies to obtain internships for students in various parts of the world. To begin the process of applying for an internship that suits you, click on one of our opportunities. Timken, TCS and Rotary International all have global opportunities, along with government internships.
The Institute uses your contribution to support scholarships, IB student organization activities, global internships, study abroad programs, graduate assistants, Advisory Board activities, IB curriculum and program development, and faculty research.
