International Business Professor from the University of South Africa visits CBA

Dr. Daniel Makina, Professor of International Business Finance at the University of South Africa will speak on “South Africa's Business Environment: Opportunities and Challenges” on Thursday April 5 at 3:15 PM. His presentation explores South Africa's business environment from an international perspective and in the context of the country’s admission to the club of BRICS nations. It focuses on political dynamics, investment climate, business culture, and on South Africa’s inward and outward foreign direct investment.

Daniel is an accomplished academic and has published in national and international journals. His scholarly work has won recognition from international organizations such as the UNDP, UNICEF, and the ILO for which he has written policy working papers. Professor Makina is one of the privileged international scholars honored by Elsevier Publisher with an invitation to contribute to the forthcoming International Encyclopedias of Housing and Home.

Institute for Global Business (IGB)

The Institute for Global Business (IGB) was established in 1996 as an academic unit within the College of Business Administration at the University of Akron through a grant from the State of Ohio. The mission of IGB is to educate high quality international business (IB) students with requisite skills and preparation to assume leadership roles in the global business model. We offer programs in IB at the undergraduate and graduate level. With a focus on providing to our students holistic academic experience with significant global learning opportunities, the IGB has been an integral component of CBA since its inception. Our dedicated faculty has varied international experience and expertise, is committed to student success, and pursues an active research agenda to provide enriched learning opportunity for students. International Business Programs and Curriculum

The IGB offers a Major in International Business or a Minor in International Business, along with a Certificate in International Business. These programs and been updated to stay relevant in the fast paced International Business environment. Students are now required to become proficient in a new language that will further their international skills and includes many Study Abroad options to give students international experience. The International Business MBA has also been updated to give students the skills they need to find a career in International Business

The IGB works with international companies to obtain internships for students in various parts of the world.
