The Lia and John H. Costello Jr. Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Business was established in 1997 by their son, John H. Costello III, Chief Global Marketing Officer of Home Depot. He became famous during his career as vice president of Sears for the "softer side of Sears" advertising campaign. He wishes to recognize his parents, who were instrumental in providing an environment in which they fostered the belief that anything was possible. Mr. Costello's father was a lifelong resident of Akron and his mother was born in New Jersey. They lived in Akron until their retirement to South Carolina in 1987.

Mr. Costello is a 1968 graduate of The University of Akron with a B.S.B.A. in Marketing and is a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He received the Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Distinguished Business Alumni Award in 1997. This $1,000 scholarship ($500 Fall and $500 Spring semester) will be awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Business Administration with preference given to marketing majors.

Qualifications

1. Marketing Management, Sales Management, or Integrated Marketing Communication Major
2. Full-time student by Fall semester
3. GPA of 2.75 or above or GPA of 3.0 or above in major
